A Fabulous Giveaway!!!

Oh friends, do I have a special treat for you! I was contacted by the good people at Slimkicker, a healthy living/fitness app, and asked if I wanted to host a giveaway where one lucky reader will get this awesome digital food scale


How cool is that scale?? Of course I said yes because not only do I love helping my readers win cool, free stuff but I know how important it is to make fitness and health goals.

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave a comment describing your idea of a fun, creative fitness or diet challenge. It only has to be one or two sentences. I'll start by sharing my diet challenge: after baby is born I am going to severely limit my sugar intake! I went a little crazy with the desserts and sweets during this pregnancy but to help lose the baby weight and make sure my little bundle of joy receives the correct nutrition, my goal is to only splurge on desserts a few times a week (instead of every day or more than once a day, woops)! :)

  1. Here is a great idea that I'm going to try soon. Think of 12 vices that you may have (chocolate, alcohol, soda, cheese, etc.) Assign each one a number 1-12. Pick a month to start with (for now let's say July because it's next). Roll 2 dice and whatever number it lands on that is the vice you need to give up for that month. For instance let's say you rolled a 7 and you had assigned that number to soda. You should give up soda for the entire month. Roll again for August, September, etc. until you have the year filled. Not only is it a challenge for yourself, but it might help see which of your weaknesses helps you lose weight or makes you feel more energized or healthier without it. Do not cut out any macro or micro nutrients you need!

  2. I will be having orthognathic (jaw) surgery within the next year and because of this I have extra incentive to get in the best shape mentally and physically going into it. Ashley, I too need to cut down on my sugar intake but more so need to cut down on carbs. My weakness is cereal. I plan to jumpstart my mornings by having a cup of Greek yogurt with fruit and a bit of granola. I would like to find more recipes with fresh and healthy ingredients -- less processed foods. I will continue walking and hopefully incorporate running and free weights into my routine. Okay, well thanks for getting me to write down my goals (sorry for the novel!). Now I feel even more accountable to do it! :)

  3. My main vice is soda-Coke-this worst! My goal is to run and eventually medal in a 5k. This summer I am going to devote 3-4 days per week to train for the races as well as say goodbye to soda and drink way more water!

  4. I want to look amazing for an upcoming wedding that I am attending so I plan on cutting down on my fat/sugar intake. Healthy snacking instead of bad snacking. No processed foods to encourage me to make my own meals. I also will exercise 4-5 times a week for 45-1 hour. This will include cardio and weight training. Just started on Monday! Can't wait to see results :)

  5. I attribute my fitness (at age 69) to a vegan diet without sugar or yeast bread. As far as a fun, creative routine... I love rebounding!!

  7. I want to be able to keep up with my kids and their super high energy levels! I am changing my eating habits and trying to fit more exercise into my daily schedule. For about a week now we've been exercising together (dancing, going for walks, running in the back yard, and various moves found on pinterest) and having a great time doing it!

  8. For the last few weeks I've been eating better, counting my calories and exercising 40 minutes a day. It's been hard to break some old habits but I'm already seeing results!! Once you get in the pattern of healthy things, it makes it easier to stay with it.

  9. My goal since I had my son last year is to be more active. I try to walk everywhere that I possible can and work out at least four days a week. As far as diet and nutrition goes, portion control works best for me. I love to cook and love to bake so many diets just don't work for me! During the week I strive to each fresh and clean, that way on the weekends I get to enjoy myself!! :)

  10. Let's see..... A good giveaway idea would be to do 1 spontaneous physical activity everyday, whether it's getting off 1 station early to work, or taking a walk after lunch, or just playing with the kids.

  11. When I was personal training, the number one thing I told all of my clients was to do was to keep a food journal. Write down everything you eat....it takes commitment but then you really know if you are getting your daily servings of fruits, veggies and limiting your sugar and fat intake. You don't need to count calories...just pay attention to serving size. It will surprise you to see what you actually consume and what you don't get enough of...veggies!

  12. Zumba is fun and I also like finding trails with nice views. As for diet I'm really trying to incorporate more green smoothies by replacing my breakfast with one at least 5 days a week.

  13. I have such a sweet tooth too! It seems to be at its worst right away in the morning. So my challenge (as of this week actually) is to stop going for the toaster strudels or waffles with syrup or kids cereal (or snickers bars:) in the morning and instead drink a yummy oatmeal fruit smoothie. I made 4-6 one evening and then I have enough to last almost the whole week. They have everything I need in them and still taste sweet because of a little honey and some fruit blended in. I got the idea and some recipes from good old pinterest, or you can google oatmeal smoothies and it's a website called yummy life, I think. They are quite filling and have chia seeds in them so super healthy. Starts the day off much better too!
